Eri had a lot of things to say about the end of the world. Most of them were loud and shot through with rather callous sarcasm, and more than once Gillany Mather had to resort to smacking him upside the head to shut him up.
She came into the Brown Key's greatroom after spending all day packing - even now, with half of Sayvay falling apart, the Key stood open, to serve alcohol to those who needed a pint of courage before they left.
Eri turned on his stool as she slid into the one two down from his and waited for her to order before talking. "Looks like the princess' finally graced us with her-"
"Eri, shut up."
Eri Haverrai held up both hands and pulled his head back, blinking. "Wasn' any need for that."
"There was. It stopped you talking." Gillany recieved her sweetwine and sipped it, licking her top lip. "You're packed, right?"
Eri looked innocent.
"Right?"
Eri looked guilty.
"Eri, you idiot." Gillany covered half her face with her hand. "Sayvay's falling out from under us and you're sitting here repartéeing with me? What're you, staying here?"
"Hey, hey, course not." Eri frowned and then grinned. "You're going, so I may as well, too, right? Only if there's no you around, there's nothing for me t'do, and I can't let that happen."
Gillany hid her smile with her cup. |
